Prototype Marzocchi 888 EVO Ti With Ti Nitrate Stanchions

Prototype works Marzocchi fork with some internal magic and Ti-Nitrate stanchion tubes

Marzocchi has just released information on a works for that they've put together for one of their riders that is built using updated gold ti-nitrate coated stanchions that not only look the business, but should add an extra bit of sensitivity that Marzocchi forks are already well known for. Besides the stunning looks and improved smoothness, the ultra silky surface treatment can have the added benefit of offering a smoother and better surface for the fork seals to work with. The sliders are also still teflon impregnated as well. This should all add up to a fork that is as sensitive as an emo teenager kid, but a whole lot more fun to abuse. It's also worth mentioning that the process and chemicals used for these stanchion tubes is different than found on some other options available on mountain bike forks today.

There is goodness to be found on the inside as well though. Polished bushings, teflon oil additive, tweaked oil level heights, as well as a custom valved shim stack that is tuned for the riders weight and preferences.

As of right now there is no official word on availability or cost, but there are whisperings of it being available to regular peons in 2011 as either a complete fork or possibly a works upgrade with a few different stanchion color options. Start saving...

Have the new gold ti-nitrate stanchions got you excited about what Marzocchi may or may not be releasing for the 2011 season? Share your thoughts below on the new bling sliders!

Hit up the Marzocchi website to see their latest offerings, although the above fork is to new to be on there yet!

Yes, they look good as they are different to what we got used to see on the trails.
Marzocchi had the black anodized, chrome and the 'normal' anodizing treatment to their sliders over the years.
With this new coating I can see here rather a fashion change than smoothness improvement.

I had a Fox 40 for two years!!! It blew up at Fontana last season and I had no way of getting repaired for the 5th time in 6 months. I purchased my 888 EVO Ti had it installed at the race and have loved it ever since! I will never look at that 40 again. I feel bad for those of you that have not had a chance to ride one of these forks yet or are just to stubborn to realize that your 40 is not the final answer to bicycle suspension.

C'mon WHISTLERMANIAC98, read up before commenting. Just because the color of the finished stanchions are the same, it does not mean that they've used the same chemicals or process... Not saying one is better than the other as I have no time on either, but they are different.

 http://www.kashima-coat.com/pdf/English_pamphlet.pdf

in short:

"Molybdenum disulfide, a lubricating material, is deposited by electrical induction inside countless pores in the formed anodized aluminum (anodicoxide) film.

The molybdenum accumulates in the micropores of the anodized aluminum to fill them in.

A combination of “hardness + lubrication” can be achieved with approximately 70 billion pores per 1 cm2. As a result, the abrasion resistance of Kashima Coat is drastically improved and significantly higher than that of hard anodized aluminum.

There are high expectations for Kashima Coat as a revolutionary new material, and it is being adopted across a wide range of fields."

got it? ok ! :p

Kashima coating is a joke!! Maybe you should get in touch with one of the techs at Suzuki and ask them what a waste of time and money it was for a large corporation such as them to drop the program(Kashima coating) because of all of the defects reported from the teams that had to deal with all of this. I had my Yamaha for 3 weeks before it flaked off and contaminated the oil so badly that it effected the damping consistency of the rebound and compression!!

as sick as kashima sounds im not sold that it would be better than nickle plating, the only reason why nickle plating hasnt taken over the industry is its an expensive process.
  • + 3
flag bigjerry Plus (Jul 23, 2010 at 20:24)
nickle plating has the win for hardness/density. just picking up a 2011 fox recently i have noticed that the kashima feels like the fork has been broken in for a while and i have always used flouropolymer oil on the stanctions i have owned and repaired. it feels night and day from the old fox 40's. alot more sensitive to small bumps due to the lower friction rate.
  • + 2
flag ctd07 (Jul 23, 2010 at 21:43)
(quoting from memory here) nickel or 'Kashima' are not the same as Ti-nitrate, Ti-nitrate is by far the most expensive process and offers the best reduction in friction of all, its downside is how expensive it is and it can still get scratched fairly easily as far as I'm aware [as can Nickel coating], Fox use Kashima as a cheaper comprimise against Ti-nitrate coatings, it is also supposedly more hard wearing too. Ti-coatings are really too expensive for the performance increase they offer which is why companies have stopped using it in the past... but now Mz use slotted & fitted bushings combined with highest grade Japanese seals & Nickel coating to get friction to a minimum, Ti-nitrate is the only step forward they can make to reduce friction further...

These forks will no doubt blow any other product away, but will cost an absolute fortune!

tru dat, most fork reviews tend to be filled to the brim with tech jargon and very little real world application, but at the same time it must be a difficult thing to test. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has ridden the same lines hundreds of times and had a couple of times where you're just not 'feeling' the the fork that day...so it must quite hard to make exact comparisons. I doubt really whether top end factory forks really feel so different to one another as to be hugely noticeable when performing, I think the benefit comes in the upgrade side of forks; tftuned, mojo (uk) is where the noticeable performance boost comes in...not forgetting having your fork damped and sagging correctly which is probably the most important thing of all.

The drop-off line lived up to its name as the biggest drop-off in quality for a single mountain bike component line, was the first sign of Marzocchi's quality decline.

1. The tube is aluminum not steel like the boxxer.

This is just to show that they can beat fox on weight and performance.
GET READY BOYS CAUSE NEXT STOP FOR MARZOCCHI IS TO BEAT THE DORADOS AT THEIR GAME!
SO I HAVE BEEN TOLD!

enrico650-marzocchi weighs all their forks without any oil. after that thing is full of oil it will be heavier than the 40. we weighed both at the lbs and weighs 7.2 with oil(fox was 6.8 with ti spring and oil). just to give you a heads up

Get a new scale and a set perscription bifocals.
I tested the fork before it came in to production (check my profile)
We had at hand a fox and others, not only our fork came a few ounces ligther, the 888 is the only fork that can be serviced by your local bike shops, shim and stack system can be adjusted at marzocchi at no xtra cost to you (170.00 for fox)
Maybe you have better credentials and wish to clarify this.

wow your profile states nothing except for you like to comment on everyones stuff for sale...i have had all of my fox 40's serviced by my local bike shop and they have been great. sorry to say but i will not ride a marz since they have gone downhill in 08. its going to take more than a new product to revive whats left of the company.(ps i rode marz moto for quite a while so please dont try and use your b/s credentials on me and other fellow pinkbikers. post up some real information...

lol, Marzo have also given stated weights without the steerer tube in the past [which added another 545g to their dj forks].... like, seriously??? is the steerer tube not essential or something!? rofl!

flag bigeezy (Jul 26, 2010 at 23:10)
skateer... all my buddies who had 40s key word being "had" now ride the 888 evo ti after riding mine. There is hands down no comparing these forks. The 40 lacks the sensitivity and small bump compliance of the new 888 and the easy to tune and access shim stack makes it a breeze to custom tune. Sorry but those are facts.
  • + 1
flag bigjerry Plus (Jul 27, 2010 at 15:30)
not saying the new evo ti isnt a great fork. it is. just saying that marzocchi's weights seem to always be off. ps the kashima coating makes a word of difference in small bump. take one for a spin, big difference from 2010 40.

dude boxxers are cheezey people say well marz is just ripping the other companies horse shit it took RS until 2010 to figure out that 32mm was not strong enough so what do they do they take 35mm which mars had light years before rockshox is shit in my eyes fox shox are good but I whould never try to compare an RS to a marz
  • + 1
flag JBizzle (Jul 28, 2010 at 11:23)
Never said marz was ripping off anything and I ran marz until 2007 but thats the last year that they didn't suck, I am talking from a product standpoint and company. I WILL NEVER RUN ANOTHER MARZOCCHI until they get their shit together, and start producing something that lives up to the z1.
