Truvativ XO chain guide - Sea Otter Day 2

You may have seen photos of Truvativ's XO guide a while ago, but now it is official. It is obvious to see that the new XO guide looks very much like an MRP G2SL - that is not a coincidence. Given that chain guides play such a vital role in how a bike's drive train performs, both MRP and Truvativ feel that it only makes sense to pool their resources.

Truvativ XO chain guide details:</span

- Integrated replaceable skid plate design
- Sealed bearing pulley wheel integrated into skid plate
- Aluminum back plate
- Available in BB-Mount, ISCG or ISCG 05 mounting standards
- Models to fit 32-36 tooth rings and 36-40 tooth rings
- Black and white color options
You may have seen photos of Truvativ's XO guide a while ago, but now it is official. It is obvious to see that the new XO guide looks very much like an MRP G2SL - that is not a coincidence. Given that chain guides play such a vital role in how a bike's drive train performs, both MRP and Truvativ feel that it only makes sense to pool their resources.

Truvativ XO chain guide details:
- Integrated replaceable skid plate design
- Sealed bearing pulley wheel integrated into skid plate
- Aluminum back plate
- Available in BB-Mount, ISCG or ISCG 05 mounting standards
- Models to fit 32-36 tooth rings and 36-40 tooth rings
- Black and white color options
The replaceable skid guard is attached to the back plate at three points.

The lower roller is adjustable to fit different sized rings. There are two different versions, one to fit 32-36 tooth rings and another to fit 36-40 tooth rings.

Truvativ isn't hiding the fact that the XO guide is basically a re-badged MRP G2SL, but instead touting that fact. And why not? MRP is known for producing sturdy and easy to install guides. The real question now is how this new XO guide will fit into the rest of the lineup - is this the first of more downhill specific parts from Truvativ or SRAM?

Check out the Truvativ website to see their entire lineup.

Stay tuned for more from Sea Otter!

Im sorry but this is a load of rubbish, why would MRP let SRAM effictively steal all their sales, they could be making 100% profit instead of SRAM taking a cut. Im also tired of the lack of innovation with these things. A chainguide is not a difficult component to design. Can they please cut the BS and just sell it for what it is.

When you take a modern fork apart you see what you're paying for but chain guides are basically that product that you need but feel like you could have made yourself.

that's why i have superstar chain guides on both my bikes, they do the same thing as any other chain guide, but cost a lot less (and maybe weigh a little more, but the money goes where it counts)

lol, 'duggles' you dumb ass! SRAM haven't stolen sales, they've just bought thousands of G2's off them and rebadged them, so now MRP don't have to bother trying to sell them to the consumer themselves and have just had their sales boosted massively no doubt! - its called business and its what makes the world go round, get used to it!

p.s. MRP guides are by far the best designed, manufactured and functioning guides out there!

What i'd like to see is an e-13/MRP guide that can cope with 34-38 tooth... Guess for business reasons they won't produce this!

flag poundsand (Apr 16, 2011 at 10:27)
they already do sell them... they just dont say truvativ or xo on them because they are called mrp g2s... i guess sram wanted something else on a bike that would match the derrailleurs and shifters

I'm not a big fan of intigrated bash guards. Not keen on cracking my iscg tabs clean off my frame. Not to mention there's no need to have a roller that moves. Its just another moving part to get clogged and jam up.

flag sam264 (Apr 16, 2011 at 19:37)
does that even happen? (having your iscg tabs being knocked off your frame), if so, i guess BB mount is the way forward Wink (seriusly though, i've never had a problem with it)

I have a MR.P G2 with a 40T ring. Works fine, better than my old e13 LG1 which smashed to oblivion one day, literally

But is this the first step in Sram buying MRP from 'Whoever-The-Hell-Owns-Them-Now'?

Sram have never had a high-end chain device before, so it'd make perfect sense to buy out MRP, just like they've done with RockShox/Avid/Truvative.

All they'd need then is to expand the Sram hub range, then get a rim/tyre company in house. WTB perhaps?

flag Edparn (Apr 16, 2011 at 5:17)
True. It won't be that long before they have a complete Sram X0 bike including X0 carbon frame. I'm going to bet it'll probably be pretty good but flipping expensive.

WTB is a strong company by themselves I dont think they will be selling themselves anytime soon.

This is for posers who want a full matching X0 component range on their rig. Good for them, I however will stick to MRP and save a little cash.

It's funny how they never got Truvitiv to make one, considering their box guides were everywhere on mid range bikes at one point?

It's true that MRP has been around longer than E.13, but E.13 has had this design for longer than MRP has.

If they could now just lower the price for what is essentially one of the most overpriced pieces of kit we have on our bikes...who cares what name is one it.

My G2 did the same thing on a moderate impact when only a few weeks old. Then I got an E13 LG1 and smashed that into some stuff for two years until I sold the bike it was on and it still worked like new......
