Trek Announces Sponsorship of T-Mo Racing

Tracy Moseley, the 2011 downhill World Cup Champion and 2010 downhill World Champion, will be refocusing her racing efforts in 2012 under the T-Mo Racing banner. The Trek-sponsored rider will expand her racing calendar to include a variety of race formats next year. Having begun her racing career in the early 1990s, downhill became Tracy’s speciality, although she has always enjoyed mixing up her mountain biking. Going forward, Tracy will return to her multi-discipline roots and will participate in several races in 2012, including World Cup downhill events, Pro Sprint Eliminator races, and a special focus on enduros.

Tracy Moseley on her winning run. The gap now between her and Floriane is exactly 250 points. Pretty much Tracy just has to roll across the finish line at Val di Sole and the overall is hers. But if for some reason she was unable to either qualify or race the season could potentially be a tie.
bigquotesAfter 12 years on the World Cup downhill circuit and the achievement of all the goals I set for myself, I felt that the end of 2011 was a perfect opportunity to make a change in direction and pursue some new challenges. I would like to extend my thanks to Trek World Racing and everyone working behind the scenes at Trek for the most successful three years of my career to date. That support has allowed me to attain both a World Championship title and a World Cup title. I look forward to continuing my relationship with Trek as both an athlete and ambassador, as I pursue new ventures.- Tracy Moseley

With support from Trek, Tracy’s new objective is to elevate her profile as an all-round mountain bike athlete. She has set goals to finish in podium positions across all of her planned races, and to gain points for World Championship selection in both cross country Pro Sprint, and downhill. She will have a variety of bikes from the Trek quiver to choose from, including a Session 9.9 and Slash, as she pursues her new aims.
bigquotesWe are delighted to keep Tracy within the Trek family. Her successful career and outstanding reputation made furthering the relationship an easy decision to make. We look forward to supporting the shift in her racing career.- Andrew Griffin, Trek UK Marketing Manager

A trail of tear offs leads the way to the gate as Tracy Moseley waits for Floriane Pugin to start. Last rider in the start house less than a minute to go before the start of her winning run.

Complete details of Tracy’s 2012 calendar and full support list will be announced during the London Bike Show on January 13th.

@IllistT i'm a girl that rides and the boyfriend cast off/color scheme assumption is completely wrong. I would also argue that when it comes to exposure at races themselves, women get more because there are so few. Just being a girl on the scene will turn heads. As a guy you may not buy what she's riding, but you're going to note what it is when she flies by you. So stoked for T-Mo can't wait to watch her dominate other disciplines

Nice to see Tracy will still be on it. Don't just think she can kill it on the DH hills boys and girls, i've been fortunate enough to have ridden with her at many a jump spot such as the Spinney, Woburn and Wolverley and she is buttery smooth on the dirt jump trails! Hopefully she will make at least one round of the Halo BDS in 2012 and the National Championships at Moelfre.

I like watching the womens racing, some of them are faster than the guys! It does seem to lack characters like Missy who had that extra personality though, but I suppose she was a one off. I think they do bring publicity to a brand and are good for the sport on a whole. As for there worth in the making money for the brand, I really don't know, you would have to ask their sponsors.

Tracey is awesome and I wish her the best, but I really don't understand why mtb brands sponsor women.
What do they get in return?

No one really cares when a woman wins a mtb race/event. Its harsh, but true.
Neg prop away....

DH bike sales to women must be, what, 1 maybe 2% of the market? At the most.
Other areas of mtb sales obviously a bit more.
But you reckon men buy bikes/products based on what women won on?
You're kidding yourself.
Just exposure in general is the best you can hope for.
I bet Aaron's wage is 10 times Tracey's.
In fact, I doubt there's more than 10 pro mtb girls in the world (pro meaning "professional", i.e. their sole source of income is mtb sponsorship)

IllestT that is complete b******t. All my mates, male and female, are interested in the womens DH results. Female riders have just an equal right as men, in having their accomplishments advertised and celebrated. If female racers were not advertised and promoted then what do beginner and moderate female riders have to look up too? Imagine for a moment how you would feel if there were no role models in DH for you men. You need to slap yourself across the face IllestT. Don't forget female's are buyers of DH gear as well and sponcered female riders help attract customers just as much as sponcered male riders do.

Of the few women that do ride, most their stuff is boyfriend cast-offs.
And the things they do buy, tend to be more based on the "colour scheme" criteria, than looking what the sponsored female riders are on

i agree that their isnt as much income to be made from the women's side of the sport, but it does still make up at least 15% i would say. i dont look at any gender specifically for role models, though i admit i am probably slightly biased due to the exposure men get. i enjoy watching rachel atherton fly down a mountain as much as gee or dan. the only thing i care about is can they ride a bike with speed n style

I think that even if its not as profitable as it is to sponsor Gwin and their other male athletes, they should still 100% commit to supporting female riders. If you look at the costs of sponsorship relative to their yearly sales it probably hardly registers, and without a strong female world cup field (something we still haven't really got yet, we need more fast ladies), this sport is just going to remain a sausage fest.

"Of the few women that do ride, most their stuff is boyfriend cast-offs."

HA! I'm a female rider, and I for one don't take cast-offs as my boyfriend doesn't even ride! Believe it or not, women riders do have their own gear and it's not just borrowed or chosen because of colour! And I am ten times more likely to buy gear that I can see being ridden by either male or female riders to destruction (and having it survive) than just buy something because it matches the colour of my cranks. Which is why I use brands like Fox, 5-10 and Demon Dirt, as they are proven time and time again in DH/4x/Dirt to survive a good beating.

Please. Go and find some real riders and re-evaluate your opinions!
